This place has the worst beer of any microbrewery I've ever attended. I've been to several breweries-Dragonmead, Kuhnhenn, Founders, etc. and they all blow this place out of the water. This is very disappointing because I live very close to Sherwood and would love to be able to like this place. I've tried close to a dozen beers here and they were all abysmal. Usually I can find at least one beer I like at any brewery. Even the food is below average to be generous. This place is exceptionally BAD.

Went there for lunch with my wife, the food was pretty good, and the service was very good, but the beer was below average, my wife and I tried 5 different ones, and for the most part they where all pretty flat, and the selection was pretty boring, I have been to many breweries around Michigan, this on is now on the bottom of list!

3.5 stars was way to high for this place.. Bad food, beer not so good, and over priced

Food and beer were average at best. Service was terrible. Waiter showed up twice then disappeared. My wife found him cleaning the women's bathroom. Who in the world has a server clean a bathroom while serving? Will never return, truly disappointed.

Great beer, great food, loooooove it:) real food and drinks made right there. Puts the chains to Shame!! I wish they would open one in Richmond. We don't have anything like it!

Great Food, Great Service, Great Beer. This place has it all, good music and bands on the weekends. Check it out! Keep up the good work Sherwood Staff! :-)

One of the first breweries I've been too and glad I was. Staff always is good to us and smiling. Can free sample beer before you buy and their pizza is very good. Plenty of seating in there make it a good spot for a group. We look to bring a few friends back. Their Trippel when they have it is very good!!!

First, let me start by saying I Don;t Drink Beer. I hate beer. This review will be about everything but beer. The food was sensational. I was very pleasantly surprised. The beer cheese soup was out of this world. The burgers were fresh, the bun was great! The fries were fresh and homemade. Simply wonderful. The service was stellar. We had a wonderful waitress who explained the beers etc. (despite us not drinking beer). She was attenive and knowledgable. I had the homemade Root Beer which was the best around. I highly recommend giving this place a try!!!

Awesome beers, decent food, and great deals daily till 6 and all day on Wednesdays (especially after 6pm). Get a membership (more deals!!!) even if you don't like a certain beer, they change their selection pretty often so you will eventually find one you love!! At first I wasn't a huge fan neither. So to all you that hated it at first or wasn't a fan come back and try again.

I feel kind of mixed here. The food is good but the beer and home made soda is flat. I asked around and others say the same. The atmosphere was nice. Service was very average. Nothing special

I love the wine! That's what keeps me going back. I've tried the beer once and it was good as well, but the wine takes the cake. The food is not bad, but I would not recommended anything specific. It might be because I am so in love with their wine that I haven't focused on the menu. So it is not a negative towards the restaurant, just nothing sticks out to me..yet The only thing that would make this place the best is if they offered their wine to go like they do their beer! Many great choices and they are always changing the selection so you always have something new to try.

I love this place! I have never been disappointed. I enjoy pretty much all of the beers that they serve. I prefer the dark stouts and porters. Fantastic. Another thing can be said for their food. I find it difficult to find a micro brew joint that serves great beer AND great food. This is the place for both. I love the pizza here. You have a choice between the standard and whole wheat crust. The whole wheat crust is great. I expected it to be drier than my ex girlfriend's sense of humor, but it wasn't. You can also choose between their bold beer pizza sauce or their wine sauce. I love both, but you need to be in the mood for spicy if you go with the beer sauce. They have an XL pizza or individual pizzas. They used to have pretzel sandwiches on the menu, but they don't any more :(. I do enjoy their chicken pesto sandwich. It's pretty good. Their fish and chips are delicious as well. I did have their blueberry beer ice cream sandwiched in between 2 homemade chocolate chip cookies. The plate was drizzled with chocolate sauce too. I would have had sex with it if that were socially acceptable. As far as price is concerned, I'd say my wife and I average roughly $40 between the two of us for dinner and drinks. I highly recommend Sherwood.

Two words... Chicken & Waffles!!!! 1/2 off beer or pizza wednesday... Delicious fresh brewed beer and wine! This is one of our new must go to spots we've been telling people about! ;) totally comfortable at home atmosphere... Only downfall... Wish it had newer better TV's to watch the games on...I'd stay longer if they did.

Beware, waitress shortchanged me twice. $41 bill, gave $100, got $49 in change. Also I was never given any of the coin...it wasn't exactly $41.00 it was like $41.25. The waitress just kept the coin...even after I pointed out she shorted me $10. Watch your tabs and change closely here.

Beer was good. But our waitress is currently ignoring us. Now, not only am I hungry, but my self esteem is really low too. Also, my girlfriend is pissed (see photo).

May be the best brewery in SE Michigan. Sherwood is a great place to have a few well-made beers and a great meal. It's family friendly but still a great place to meet friends. The cheesy bread sticks are addictive. Try the pizza or the beer cheese soup. My favorite beer is the Production Line Red. The Hemp and the Blonde are also very good. They also offer hand crafted wines and sodas. Rotating taps on beer, wine and soda. The staff is excellent. They all know (and love) the beers they serve.

Outstanding place for drinks and food. The wings and pizza are just amazing! A great place to relax and enjoy good times. The owners Lisa and Ray are just great...this is a staple place for us on date nights!

With all the cookie cutter malls in northern macomb county..its not hard to find a pub..bar..or grille around the area. So my first experience with this place is 3 stars. I had the blonde ale which was pretty good. The menu is typical fare. Appetizers burgers and the like. I was hungry so I decided to build my burger. 1/2 lb burger with cheese and simple tomato bacon. With fries. Was it the best burger far from it but I had worse. It was acceptable. The fries were hand cut style. But definitely not "fresh" This brewery has a identity problem. It tries too hard to be a big city urban feel pub with a black marker wall were many patrons tag their sigs and what nots. Very plain. The large booths are uncomfortable for long stays. Out dated flat screens and only 1 large projector screen on the wall behind the main bar. This is a good place for a quick brew but that's about it.

I wanted to update my review on Sherwood's because the owner reached out to me after reading this review and offered a gift card to come back so they can prove me wrong. Which that in itself is amazing. Not many places do anything now a days when you get bad service. So we went back with a group of 5 of us and were proved wrong in many ways. They had a good selection of beer this time and the service was much better. The waitress explained all the beers and was very polite about it. She even explained it to someone in our party that came in a min later after us. On the beer, I cant decide which one I like better but the vanilla porter and the blond were both reallyyy good! Now on the food, its just mehhh. Someone got the chicken artichoke pizza and that was the best at the table. Id def come back here for some drinks and a pizza with friends, maybe a night they have a live band. Not so much for dinner and drinks. BUT I have gained much respect for this place and would come back only because these owners care about their name. (and we love the porter and blond) Thanks so much Lisa!!

  • Bill V.

I was expecting e better experience from Sherwood. They seemed to have good reviews and I like craft beer. I was disappointed by the food quality. My chicken and artichoke pizza was dry and my wife's fried fish was over cooked. The atmosphere was nice and we enjoyed ourselves with our friends. The beer was average but better than the common commercial fare. We were also surprised to find out that they only serve beer and wine. My wife only likes mixed drinks so she stayed dry all night.

    (2)
  • Kenneth W.

The beers are very tasty. They change the line up of beers frequently. That is one draw back, if you love a beer or wine it might be gone the next time. The pizza is very good. I highly recommended it. My wife always finds a wine that she loves, so beer and wine lovers alike will be happy most likely. Sometimes the music is a little loud at night so be aware of that.

    (4)
  • Bryan L.

I love the food and beer here. They offer a gluten free pizza that my wife loves and make their own wine...so don't fear the Brewing name if you are GF. It can be a little confusing when you come in as there doesn't appear to be a Host, but if you walk in and actively look for a seat, one of the wait staff will help you so don't be intimidated. Once seated the staff is excellent, even when packed folks who your table doesn't belong to are willing to wait on you...all in all, they work as a team and it is appreciated. Again, there hasn't been a beer I've tried that wasn't at least good and the food has always been above average to excellent (especially the GF). Excellent hangout.

  • Jon K.

I really like the beers, especially the Mistress Jade's Hemp Ale. The pizza and breadsticks are great, so are the burgers. Everything else food wise is just ok. The place always smells amazing (beer being made is one of the best smells ever). Service is very slow but very friendly so just don't go here if you are in a hurry.

Eh, I guess this place is alright for the area. We came in one night while home for the holidays, and I guess it was trivia night. One of the trivia questions was "Spell Milwaukee." ...not a question.

Decided to stop by for a drink to try this place out based on the reviews I've seen. The seating was comfortable and our waitress was awesome. She found out some stuff for us without us even asking, whilst busy. It would be an OK place to watch a game, like if your tv and radio were both broken. It was quite loud that night, and several rage-out sports-fanatic hockey-dad types screamed, (i mean screamed) at the tv and at nothing at regular intervals. Could have just been the night so I don't hold it against them. Bigger problem was beer. It had the look and feel of a place that knows how to brew it; but the two that we tried, the hemp and pumpkin ales, were both rather 1 dimensional on this day. The Pumpkin was seasonal and my guess is they were still serving a batch they had made back in early October. My friend ordered it, I tried it and personally thought it was undrinkable, it tasted minerally like tums mixed with pumpkin flavored children's vitamins. The hemp was better, but had a taste reminiscent of some weed leaves steeped in miller light. There are much better options nearby. I left very confused about the target demographic. Sherwood seems a little on the fence about whether it's a sports bar, or a commited microbrewery. If both, then that explains why it was lacking in both categories. That said, if it were around the corner, I would go back and try some of the other beers at different times of the week and year to get a more balanced picture of what they offer.

The beers just keeps on coming! Seriously a great place with amazing pizza (and other food too!). The craft beer is not for those who want a Bud or a rum and coke. I like to have a Production Line Red or a Hemp Ale. You aren't getting these flavors at other bars. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable about the beer. I like watching Tigers games there in the summer. I don't go to the live music performances but I played trivia there for about two years on Tuesday nights and it was always a riot.

  • Tom B.

This is a great place to come with your family, have a pint and a pizza and enjoy a Tiger game! Lisa and Ray and their entire staff (especially bartenders like Erica) treat you like family every time you come in. From the excellent chicken chili to the cheesy bread sticks (that your kids will LOVE with ranch dressing!) Sherwood will NOT disappoint!

Wonderful Staff and Better Beer! If you are looking for a place that has great snacks and better beer search no more. Would go there everyday if i lived closer. Worth a trip. The hand cut fries are amazing and totally check out their specials.

I am a former Sherwood employee, but I am not longer working there, so my review is totally legit and not biased... honestly Sherwood is the sh*t! If you like yummy beer it is the place to go!! Ask your server they will let you try things, find something you like! If you don't drink, #1 I don't trust you, #2 Sherwood makes homeade sodas, so you can have that...but you should probably just have beer unless you are a child. The food is good!! I ate there almost everyday for a year so I can tell ya, pretty much everything one the menu is good. Burgers...yum! Pizza...I actually am mad that they are so good bc I ate way too many while I worked there. The Sherwood salad is the cat's A** with cashews and feta!! If you are cheap or poor like me go before 3 on a weekday and lunch is 2.99!!! seriously what a freakin deal!! Also, everyone that works at Sherwood is sexy, funny, and awesome!!! If you go up alone and strike up a convo anyone at the bar or working will make you feel right at home! If you don't like Sherwood, I probably wouldn't like you :)

I have a fresh/crappy recent experience in my mind while writing this review (don't give out free beer coupons if you're not going to honor them). On any given day that I've been in this place I would honestly go no higher than 3 stars. I like the idea, the location (there aren't many 'cool' places/brewpubs in northern Macomb county), and I like the feel of the interior. The most important part of a brewery like Sherwood, however, is the quality of their beer. If you do not go to many breweries around town you would probably really enjoy this place. If you go to all of the breweries around town you will probably hate their beer. They have one stout/porter that has been on tap multiple times during my trips here that tasted good. Nothing outstanding. They currently have an oak aged strong ale (looked more like a white) that was interesting and pretty good. Everything else I've had their has been average at best. I appreciate that they are small batches so they switch out their beers often. I just wish they switched the beers out with other local brewery beers that make a superior product.

I've been to this place a couple of times and I like it. The place has a lot of potential and hopefully it has the chance to grow into a great brew pub. There burgers are very good and they always have good specials too. The best part about this place is their blonde ale, the Buxom Blonde. This is probably my favorite house brewed craft beer of all the breweries in the tri county area. Good stuff.

Beer is Great, food is Great, Service is Greatest. Have never come and not had a good time. Beer is consistently great. Every friend I have brought has liked the chilled, relaxing atmosphere and good beer. Only downfall is the fact that they don't have pop there. I don't mind but my girlfriend doesn't drink beer and there is no coke or pepsi to drink so that's a downfall.

My husband received a gift card here and so we went for dinner this evening. Overall, it was pretty...average. The atmosphere wasn't bad, but it wasn't very interesting either. It's pretty clear that the owners didn't put much thought into it, which is fine, because it's a brewery. However, what's not so fine about a brewery is when the beer isn't good. And this beer wasn't very good. I had a Trippel, and my husband had a Scotch Ale. Again, not terrible, but not great. Not worth coming here just for the beer, that's for sure. The food on the other hand, was quite good. I had the BLFGT (bacon, lettuce, and fried green tomatoes), which was excellent. It was served with homemade pub chips, which were okay. They needed some type of aioli or something. My husband had the chicken and waffles, which were also very good. The worst part though, by far, was the gelato. We had been warned against getting any of the beer flavored ones, so we sampled one made with their Chardonnay, along with a chocolate, and a strawberry caramel. None of them were good. The texture and consistency were nothing like the smooth and creamy gelato I'm used to having. Not worth trying, in my opinion. Our waitress was very sweet though, so that helps the review a bit. Overall, I would probably come back for the food if it were closer to where I live, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

My friend and I came in here the other night for a few craft beers. We easily found two spots available at the bar which was great. Decor was a little odd- it just looks like an old hole in the wall bar. The beer selection isn't that big either which was pretty disappointing. The had a stout, red, light, wheat style and IPA. Nothing different which I was very bummed about.

I don't do beer. But the fact that this place has survived the Hayes Corner Plaza since establishment intrigued me, so I decided to dine in. Ordered a pesto chicken melt sandwich, was good. Came with crispy house made kettle chips. My husband ordered beer cheese soup & a burger, he loved both. This is a true brewery since they do not sell beers you know, or pop. They make ALL beer in house. You can tell your server what you normally drink & they'll suggest a beer to your liking. Sherwood also offers a great pizza menu - I'll be trying that next time!

I've been here twice now but seem to have forgotten to write reviews for either visit. The beer was good but not memorable. They do have great lunch specials, so you can eat for really cheap. The beer chili is great for the cold winter months.

Unfortunately last night will be my last time going to Sherwood. I have been a huge fan of this place since they opened. Close to home, beers and service WERE good. After getting a flight of 4 small beers, maiback, mint stout, rye ipa and their typical blonde ale, my fiancé (whom we go to sherwood very often, usually more than 8 times a month) asked if the kitchen would add Corned beef to a burger for him. The waitress (who was nice) got the manager, who came over in a hurry, only to look at us with a puzzled look and said I can't do that. He asked why not? She said I can't do that, I can't charge you for it because they're is no way to price it! She was very uncomfortable and just kept repeating herself. My fiancé looked bewildered by her statements and how weird she was acting, and how non accommodating to a simple request she was. He said really? You can't put extra meat on it and charge me for another burger? She said no, laughed in his face and walked away. I just got a side of apple slaw a few minutes later, which smelled completely rotten(like it had been sitting out for a few days, unrefrigerated)and was the quantity of a table spoon! I should have taken a picture! It was a joke! The mint stout tasted like stale coffee, no personality to any of the beers, other than just the degree of bitterness, no real true flavors. I am completely done with this washed up, sub par, dirty, rude, no clue why/how this place is still open dump. I advise looking into a different local brewery for a good evening.

So... Sherwood... Like with any brewery, you can get away with a lot with regards to your ambience, décor, facilities, etc... some of the best craft beers in town are served in a tap room no different than a warehouse =) ... in any case, Sherwood's ambience and overall feel is comfortable, fun, a little dark, but overall good for a brewery. The problem I have with this place is I've given it 3 good tries over the last 3 years to impress me with their beers, and they're consistently disappointing. The first time I went there only a fraction of the beers they published on their website were actually available. Getting past that, the beers lack head, a luscious presence of hops, aroma, and distinctive flavor according to their style. They all have a common denominator that's somewhat plasticky. I wonder if it's excessive decontamination agents or possibly something in their process, I'm not sure... but in all 3 occasions that I've visited Sherwood to try craft beer it's always tasted somewhat more diluted and lacking the brightness and punch of hops that I expect from a microbrewery. I will say .. their beers Do have a nice malty character, but just not enough hops.. and they're just not all that enjoyable to me.. not for the price .. The food is ok, nothing amazing, but not too bad either. I like ordering their cheeseburger and it's cooked well to order, with good fries =) I would go there more for the food than for their beer, which defeats the whole purpose of going to a brewery... There's many many many other places that provide a wonderful brewing experience. I personally recommend Dragonmead and Kuhnhenn.

Two visits where burger was not able to be cooked to order because "the kitchen is too small". This means the staff is too small to manage specific orders. I have seen other people post that they had their burgers cooked to order here and as I've both worked in a kitchen as well as made burgers at home I know it is not difficult to make a burger medium which is all I asked. Also they had a guy singing like ten Taylor swift songs and I couldn't hear myself think. Not making this up, may 23rd 2015.

Couldn't make up my mind of just one beer to try so i got a flight of six samples. Each one was worse than the previous one. The only description i could use was that each one tasted like a wrung out dish rag from six different bad indian food dishes. Then to top it all off despite telling the waitress i didnt care for any of the beers and returning the flight and ordering a different drink i was still charged full price. The chicken strips were good though Regardless, I will not be returning.

The Sherwood has great food and great home brewed beer, what more can one ask for? When they have it, their mead and hard cider is really good also. Their pizza is really good too, they have delicious sauces for the pizza.

This place would earn five stars from me if I let myself be biased, but I'll try to throw the bias out the window here. That said, this place is great. When I lived in Michigan, I was a mugless club member, and I always try to come back when I visit my family out there. I can understand some of the negative review frustrations, but it all depends on what you like. If you don't like sports, you might be put off by the sports on TV and the sometimes loud (when the Wings score, for example) fans. If you don't like loud live music, you might be put off when that is playing (and as someone who's played there - I feel partly responsible, but not enough so to apologize). If you don't like really sweet fruity wines, well, try either the dry pinot noir or (my favorite) the beer. Now, on to the stuff I really like: I like the people I met there while I was a regular. The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming. The beer is very good, but again, that depends on your taste. I've morphed into an IPA guy and I love their IPAs, Maibock, brown, and blonde beers. Their stouts and wit have won the approval of my friends that like those styles. I'm also a fan of their spicy beer pizza sauce and appetizers. The trivia night (Tuesdays, last I saw) was fun the few times I've tried it, and you get a lot of cool benefits if you become a member of the mugless club. I'm in Chicago now, which is a great city for eating and drinking all kinds of delicious treats. Still, I wish there were a place more like Sherwood near me. I like being able to go, feel familiar with the place, have some nice beer, and either play board games or music. Check it out, and as other reviewers have said, don't be afraid to ask for small samples. Their taps rotate a lot, but I'm certain they'll have something you will like.

There are many reasons why my wife and I are regulars at Sherwood. We've been to many other brewpubs, microbrews, and bars in the area. We've sampled most of them, and in one way or another, most fail to capture the essence of service, product, and environment the way that Sherwood Brewing Company has. In 2006, we started visiting another local microbrewery in the area, thinking we could become regulars there. One night there, we read Sherwood's ad for their grand opening in an issue of Brewing News, and thought to try them out since they were closer to home than this particular microbrew was. We visited Sherwood during their pre-grand-opening days and needless to say, we haven't left since. We've returned to the "other" micro once or twice in the last four years and, yup -- ain't missing a thing. Sherwood trumps them in service and atmosphere. We've grown to become friends with the owners and staff, and therefore, this review may seem biased, but consider the appeal of an establishment where customers DO feel so comfortable that they CAN become friends with a business' owners and staff. The staff go out of their way to ensure your satisfaction, within the reasonable limits of the product offerings. Certainly, there is no liquor service or commercial-brand beers or wines, so asking them to pour you a Budweiser or make you a rum & Coke is unreasonable. But the beers that ARE made on-site rotate frequently, so it's always possible to find something you like at any given time.

I went to this place a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday party. I had no idea this place even existed, but I have to say that I enjoy it. It's big inside, but not so large that your forgotten. They also have some really neat beers. While I am no beer connoisseur I do like to think of myself as quite the wine-o. They have this ice wine that's got a high alcohol content -- two thumbs up in my book!!! :-) They also don't play the music at an obnoxious level like some places. Then again it could have just been the day that I was there. It's a really great place to go with a group of friends. The wait staff is also very friendly. If you need a place to go and catch up with friends I would recommend Sherwood.

I attended a Slow Food Detroit dinner here in October 2009. The five course dinner was fabulous, and the beer pairings were excellent. They were out of IPA at the time, so I went back last week and bought a growler. Overpriced @ $17.50, and unremarkable. Sorry, but I have to lower my rating.

This is a very "Cheers" kind of place. You can tell a place is special when they have such a large group of regulars. I have a few favorite beers but I truly enjoy the food. The Pizzas are to die for and my fav. burger is the Mediterranean burger. It sounds funny to say, but it is a very clean place. (I did shadow shopping for awhile) The bathrooms are modern looking and always well stocked. there are large screen TVs and music, but during the day, the ambient sound is comfortable for conversation. The owners and staff are very accommodating and truly do a nice job of mixing things up and providing creative incentives. During the day it is a great place to hang out and visit, a family atmosphere with Wi-fi access. In the evenings they liven things up with bands and other special events. I truly do personally recommend Sherwoods to my family and friends!

Nice neighborhood feel to the place. The food is fantastic especially when you factor in the value for your dollar. I'm not a beer guy so I can't speak to that but they do have some great wines. The best thing about this place is the fact that so many things are unique from brewing their own beer, making their own wine, pop (or soda if you're one of those people) and dough for the pizza. Give this place a try.

Food and beer are ok. Service was good, but the reason why I give this place one star is the atmosphere, especially on comedy night. I came on open mic comedy night and my god it was horrible. The comedians were all a bunch of racist and sexist whites drunk, rambling about the most ignorant things. People thought he was funny so I guess this place isn't for me. If you like shallow racist comedy and don't mind paying $$ for average beer then this place is for you. Perhaps it's better when drunk ignorant white guys aren't on stage.

I'm so incredibly saddened by this place. I've been in a couple times now and hoped each time that it would be better, and it's just not. The poutine here has goopy gravy that tastes like someone just poured it out of a can and warmed it up, the cheese isn't any disernable kind and not of good quality, and the fries are mush. The beer wasn't any better than the lackluster food. Honestly I don't even remember what all I tried, but I felt that all of them were lacking in flavor, discernable character, and overall quality. Save yourself the trouble and go to Kuhnhenn, Rochester Mills, or any of the other breweries in the area.

The first time I ever went to Sherwood, I thought it was pretty cool. A smaller-type brewery that wasn't really in a busy area -- it seemed like a good low-key place to hang out. Then I went again, on a trivia night. Not crazy packed but adequate. The setup and design is pretty lame overall. There's really nothing to look at, no visual value. It feels kind of as if someone started to redesign the place then said screw it. The cheese bread is alright. The beer? It's really average, at best. It's not strong and it doesn't taste good. It might be the least impressive brewery I have been in this side of Frankenmuth, beer wise. Just nothing stood out, amd they rarely have new beers. The last straw was trivia night a few weeks ago. My girl and I showed up at 8:30 and somehow missed the first round of questions -- even though the start time said 8:30. I even called beforehand to confirm. That sucked. And the woman who does trivia is THE WORST. She messes up every question, even though she is reading them off a laptop. She takes like five minutes between questions, like I have all Tuesday night to play. She's pretty cantankerous, not enjoyable to listen to and stuffs her face with food during the game. At least pretend to do your job well. Then there's the waitresses ...there's a line between being nice and overbearing. One waitress especially crosses it every time. No, I don't need another beer after five minutes of just ordering one. Just lay off, especially during trivia. Not trying to come off as mean but this place just got worse and worse every visit. The beer is bad, the atmosphere is as lively as bingo night at the senior center and they even manage to screw up something as simple as trivia night. I wouldn't even waste your time coming here. So many better breweries in Michigan.

This place is so disappointing on so many levels. I am beyond stunned each time I drive by and realize they are still in business. First of all the interior looks like it isn't quite complete. The first time I went there I assumed they were still in the process of getting things ready. It just looked so fabricated. Tried it again a couple of months ago and nothing has changed. I am not a fancy gal, but this place just looks strange. Next the food. Nothing much to say here. The menu is not extensive, which is fine if the items they do offer taste good. The ones they offer do not. I figure a gal could at least count on a decent beer at a place with the word "Brewing" in their title. Another huge fail. The search continues.

We went here as we were in the area anyway, hoping for a decent craft beer and a good meal.....was hugely disappointed in both fronts. I can't speak for the beer, but my fiance was not terribly impressed with any of the 6 he sampled. I tried the pinot grigio they had and was not able to finish it. The poutine was okay, probably the best part of the meal, although much spicier/ more peppery than I expected. The sandwiches were half decent - I got the pesto chicken and was happy until I realized all the edges were burnt. My fiance got the club sandwich and was....okay with it I guess. It looked like the pizza was popular, maybe that's what keeps this place going? TLDNR: meh. It's a shame it isn't better, I'll not be returning.

Walk in and it smells like beer mash--sweet and warm. While I like the smell of making beer, it's a little gross in a restaurant. Our server was useless in beer selection--never offered to bring out a taste, which is what every other brewpub does (!?) so I made a good guess with the Pale Englishman which is a classic bitter style. Pretty good one, too. Recommend. We ordered the $3.99 pretzel appetizer that was right out of the frozen food section with some super gross "cheese soup." I was against it from the beginning and we sent it back. Burgers were okay. Nothing special and the upsell to "hand cut fries" was more appealing on the menu than in execution. Best part? The water faucets in the bathroom were beer taps. Genius!! Beer B+ Food C Service C-- Ambience C+ Bathroom faucet A+

  • Brian T.

Food and beer were average at best. Service was terrible. Waiter showed up twice then disappeared. My wife found him cleaning the women's bathroom. Who in the world has a server clean a bathroom while serving? Will never return, truly disappointed.

  • Emet D.

Poutine. Now I'm not a foodie, but I've had my fair share of the delectable Canadian delight. A Quebec native, poutine is simply fries with brown gravy and cheese, traditionally cheese curds. I've been to The Mac Shack, Tony's, and a few places in Canada, and none live up to the poutine served currently at The Sherwood Brewery. I have to admit that I was a bit excited when my girlfriend pointed out the morsel on the menu, but I was more excited when the taste hit my mouth. It was pure bliss. If you're at this fantastic brewery, poutine is the way to go to get you started. I hereby declare The Sherwood Brewing Company poutine the best poutine this side of the big ol' drink. The Sherwood Brewery has been a local favorite for many years now. The one thing I have always loved is the excellent food with top-notch ingredients. The menu isn't large, but I guarantee that anything you order will be a stunner. Menu items will come and go, but rest assured that something just as good or better has taken its spot. While I do miss The Heartbreaker (ironic eh?) and a few other items, there is always something that catches my fancy. And to whet your whistle? Don't expect to get a cheap beer, because The Sherwood serves anything but cheap. You'll get a high-class drink with loads of flavor, as well as the equally satisfying kick. Don't stop at beer though. The wine and meads are just as well some of the best I've ever had. Ask your server for a taste if you're curious, or get real happy-like with a sampler for you and yours. If alcohol isn't your thing, get one of their excellent in-house sodas. While the place can get quite loud at night, I've just learned to come during the day anyway. I highly recommend going anywhere from 11:30 to 3 from Monday to Saturday as this is when you'll find lunch specials and two dollar pints. It's a win-win for me personally. And if you find yourself at The Sherwood frequently, ask about a membership. You can go annual or lifetime. Members get special discounts on certain days as well as larger glasses of beer EVERYDAY! I've gotten the membership a few times before, and it certainly paid for itself, especially when getting a growler filled. If you're not familiar with breweries, yes you can order beer or wine to go, and yes you should get beer to go. Bring the jug back and get it filled again for less.

I could not love an establishment more. Need I go on? Okay, I will. I've been coming here for four years plus. I had just moved back from the east coast and I was in a weird place in my life. I hated bars and never found myself inside them. I finally appreciated beer but barely anything beyond a Blue Moon. Then my cousin took me to his new favorite joint, the Sherwood Brewing Co. In those four years since, I've had the following experience. The wait staff is amazing and has to be mentioned immediately. My first server and many after that actually ended up becoming friends. This isn't going to be how everyone experiences the place but I bring it up because that is how friendly and amazing the staff is. Sure in the four years since I started coming here the selection of servers has changed a bit, but still, the owners Ray and Lisa clearly aim to have staff that is attentive, adept, and very pleasant to be around. I'll never forget some of the people I've met here. I'll never want to. The beer has to be mentioned next. As I said previously, I was barely a beer drinker until I came here. Throughout the year, Ray brews a vast and varying selection of delicious beers that I would exclusively drink if I could buy them in stores. Of course you can't do that so the best you can do is buy a growler to take home. I'm torn every time if I want to bring in my bottle. That said, the atmosphere is half the reason I come here so I don't always go with the growler. Some of my favorite beers over the years are the Buxom Blondde, the Production Line Red, Alaskan Sister Wit, and the White Elephant. Lately I've discovered the Abbeyversary, a beer only sold in a small portion of the year around the anniversary of the place's opening. Their beer is incredible and well worth trying. They will often let you have a free taste of a beer and they also offer a nicely priced sampler of what they have on tap if you're interested in trying everything. Like the beer, they make all their own wines. I'm not a wine drinker so I've only sampled one the whole time I've been coming here but I can assure you that nobody I know has ever been disappointed in the wine here. In fact, most love their wine. Food-wise, I've had appetizers, burgers, pizza, etc. As other reviewers have mentioned, the cheese bread is phenomenal. I recommend it with a side of the Bold and Spicy sauce, which I believe uses some of their own beer to be created. If you're a member, Mondays you can get it and other appetizers half off. Pizza-wise... This place is responsible for my deep love of the Jalapeno. Their jalapenos are spicy and delicious. They're wonderfully paired with pepperoni, bold and spicy sauce, and in my opinion... the wheat crust. My cousin prefers the white though so experiment! Their burgers and fries are delicious as well. I wish I could count the amount of times I've been here with the people I love and they got Gardettos or whatever that stuff is. Let's talk atmosphere feels different than most places and I mean that in the best way. In the past four years I've come here plenty of times, both alone and with friends. The reason I keep coming back is because I feel so comfortable here. There's a friendly vibe her mixed a bit with some sports bar type action since they have a variety of televisions around always displaying sports. It's great coming here during Red Wings games and Tigers games. There're food specials during some games as well. The place is in fact dim lit but I never find it to be a problem. As of last year I am a Lifetime Member. What this means is that I am allowed entrance to special events and I am eligible for the Mugless Mondays, which is where you bring your own 30oz or less mug and get it filled for the 16oz price. You also get half off appetizers. Tuesdays they still run Quizzo. The membership costs a fee, either for the yearly or the lifetime. The primary perk for me being a lifetime member is that I will get a 20oz beer for the 16oz price every time for the rest of it's life.Plus you then can sign the wall! That means for every four beers I buy I am earning a bonus one. Great value. I'm feeling rather nostalgic now after thinking about how awesome this place has been for me over the past four years. I keep thinking about the birthdays I've celebrated here, the people I've loved to see when I walked in the door, the brews I couldn't wait to taste every visit, and all the times I played Euchre, or Apple's to Apples, or Pandemic, or other board games while enjoying the brews. This is my McClaren's. This is my Cheers. This is my Sherwood. I hope everyone who gazes upon my review gives it a shot. At the very least. It's incredibly worth the attempt. Come one, come all. Try the beers, and have a ball. The Blondde, the Red, Abbeversary too... I've come here for years, now how about you?

I'd call this a sports bar with a lot more character. We were immediately struck by all the memorabilia and posters hanging on the walls. All three of us, who are from the area, agreed that there isn't a place like this around here, and if we were in the area regularly, we'd go here all the time. They have really fantastic specials for both food and drinks -- pretty sure my pint was $2. Had the blonde ale, which was perfect for the light beer drinker like myself. I'd say it was comparable to a Summer Shandy. They also make their own root beer. As for food, I had the turkey and Swiss. Nothing fancy, but I like the combo of chipotle mayo, which wasn't on too thick, and the avocado spread on French bread. This might be a little silly, but I liked the fact that there's plenty of sunshine that comes in through the windows. I'd love to try their homemade ice cream next week, which has booze in it.

I feel terribly guilty listing a 1 star for this establishment because I wanted SO SO MUCH to love it...but it was one of the worst meals I've ever had - so bad it was inedible... I will stress that I am giving 1 star based on my food experience only...I've heard the pizza is great and the drinks are good....but for me... not so much on the food tip... I ordered fish and chips...it was horrific. Horrific is an understatement. I don't even know what it was that was brought to my table. The fish didn't have fish inside the batter - it was just fried batter - no fish.... like, really? Where's the fish??? The tarter sauce was liquid. You could pour it out of the container and it had the consistency of water. I thought they made a mistake (before I tried the meal...had I tried it first I would have known the whole meal was a mistake and not just the tartar sauce)...I thought they served me watery ranch with the fish...so I asked the waitress to bring me another tartar sauce. She returned with another container of watery white stuff. I'm not even kidding when I say it was like water. You could see the brewery section through a glass wall...and it was so strange...when we were there they had a small child in pajamas running around....maybe a child of the owners ?? I'm not sure - but it was so odd and out of place...and definitely not the scene for small children at that time of night.... On the bar front - seems like a decent place it you like live music and the whole bar feel... it's definitely not an upscale place though...so if you do decide to give it t a try, don't dress up. The brewery is located in a strip mall just slightly north of Hall Road on Hayes Rd... parking lot is large and lit... Sadly, I won't return...ever. My experience was just too icky.

Best brews on hall road and top 5 in Macomb. They usually have about 5-7 brews on tap & the hemp ale is the staple. It's a solid beer and my favorite at Sherwood's. They brew some good seasonal stouts too. Food is good quality bar food. Burgers and pizzas are your best bet. The beer cheese soups is awesome. Identity problem? No I would say not. If you have been patronizing the joint over the years you see a fun progression of staying true to beer making.

The beer is ok... The decor is in need a boost. it strikes me as a bar the just opened on a shoestring budget. It's also very loud in there due to nothing to soak up the sound.

I visit the Sherwood brewery weekly, the waiters and waitresses are good people. I usually hang out here with a bunch of men who drink beer, particularly the buxom blonde (I enjoy this one). I attend these gatherings solely for the food. Their beer cheese soup is my favorite, practically a giant bowl of cheese. The rest of their soups are usually specials, and they are nearly always a success. Everything from their pizza to their cheeseburgers are awesome. They have cards and other enjoyable games that customers are welcome to play. I always have fun when I visit.

Nice local brewery! I enjoyed trying their beers. The food was decent and large portions. Friendly, customer service, prices were reasonable. Can't complain too much, the atmosphere was fun, although a little cramped.

The beer is ok... The decor is in need a boost. it strikes me as a bar the just opened on a shoestring budget. It's also very loud in there due to nothing to soak up the sound.

Good stuff.

The Sherwood has great food and great home brewed beer, what more can one ask for? When they have it, their mead and hard cider is really good also. Their pizza is really good too, they have delicious sauces for the pizza.

This place makes great beer and wonderful food. It really is a place for people who like good beer. If you want Miller lite or Budweiser, this is not a place for you. Many unique and fun flavors with a strong flavor and full body.

I love this place! The pizza with bold and spicy beer is awesome.

Good stuff.
